ACTION AGAINST HUNGER LAUNCHES EMERGENCY OPERATION

17 February 2006 - Action Against Hunger has launched an emergency operation to facilitate access to water for the population affected by flooding in the provinces of Beni, La Paz and Santa Cruz.

This morning, Action Against Hunger sent a team including a logistician, a water and sanitation expert as well as a nutrition expert to provide drinking water, basic sanitation and food for 20,000 people. The organisation is also sending emergency supplies including water tanks and water purification tablets.

According to Manuel Sanchez Montero, Emergency Coordinator, “the priority is to provide access to water and sanitation for the families displaced by the floods.” The organisation is also assessing the damage to crops. It is estimated that more than 20.000 people have lost their homes and a substantial part of their harvest.
