21 February: Action Against Hunger presents a fine and rare Tea Auction at Harrods Department Store on 25 April 2007.
On 19th July 1998, the last ever London Tea Auction was held, bringing to an end an annual tradition stretching back to 1679. On 25th April 2007, in the art nouveau splendour of Harrods Georgian Restaurant, the tradition will be revived.
Whether you are partial to refreshing Oolong, soothing Chamomile or detoxifying White Tea, the Fine Tea Auction at the world famous Harrods Department Store will have something for even the most discriminating tea connoisseur.
Guests from all over the world including Russia, China and the Middle East will begin by sampling three of the extremely rare teas going under the hammer. These will be complemented by Champagne Taittinger and canapés as concert pianist Roland Perrin plays his soothing and original compositions.
The auction will feature 20 limited-edition tea lots sourced from some of the world’s premium tea estates. Much of the tea up for auction comes from the personal collection of Edward Eisler, tea merchant and supplier to Harrods, the Lanesborough and Coutts Bank. These teas are perhaps best described as the Pétrus and La Táche of the tea world. Like these fine wines, China’s greatest teas come from the oldest and most prestigious plantations in single estates, expressing the unique nature of their soil and environment. They are carefully aged, until they achieve a perfect balance of texture, sweetness and flavour.
It is an event that no serious tea connoisseur will want to miss: not for all the tea in China.
All the proceeds from the auction will go to Action Against Hunger’s life-saving programmes around the world.
Admission is £50 per person and includes:
- Champagne Taittinger & canapé reception
- Fine tea sampling
- Live Auction – featuring some of the world’s rarest teas
